My Hometown: VETTO
My name is Ludovica. I was born in Castelnovo ne' Monti and I live in Vetto (RE), a small village of about 1000 souls in the Apennines of Reggio Emilia province.
Our town was a popular tourist destination in the 70's/80's, in fact various families from Reggio, Parma, Milan and Genoa still have their summer homes here. For years these homes were seldom used, but since Covid many residences have been inhabited again, not only in the summer but also at weekend and during Christmas and Easter time.
The main natural attractions of this village are the terraces and the River Enza
The Terraces
The terraces were created on the slopes close to the oldest part of the town, at an altitude varying from 450 to 570 metres above sea level. They are among the very few terraced landscapes in Emilia Romagna where cultivation has been resumed after decades of total abandonment, thanks to an enlightened recovery project that had developed from the synergy between public and private sectors. The slopes are now accessible again thanks to the restoration of the network of paths and this has allowed the planting of new experimental crops.
The river Enza
The River Enza, flowing through northern Italy's Emilia-Romagna region, is a serene and historically rich waterway. Originating in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, it gracefully flows through lush landscapes, supporting local communities with its waters. Reflecting the changing seasons, the river creates a vibrant ecosystem along its banks, showcasing nature's beauty. With a rich history marked by ancient settlements and medieval castles, the river Enza invites exploration and contemplation. Its shores offer recreational opportunities, providing a peaceful escape into the region's natural splendor. The river Enza embodies a timeless connection between past and present, symbolizing continuity and change in this picturesque part of Italy.

Il mio paese natale: Vetto
Mi chiamo Ludovica, sono nata a Castelnovo ne’ Monti e vivo a Vetto (RE) ,un paesino dell’Appennino reggiano di circa 1000 anime .
Il nostro paese degli anni 70’/80 ‘ ,era un’ambita meta turistica ,infatti varie famiglie di Reggio , Parma , Milano e Genova hanno ancora la loro dimora estiva . Per anni queste abitazioni sono state poco utilizzate ,ma dal Covid in poi molte residenze sono di nuovo abitate non solo d’estate ma anche nei weekend e nelle vacanze di Natale e Pasqua .
Le principali attrazioni naturalistiche di questo borgo sono i terrazzamenti e il fiume Enza.
I Terrazzamenti
I terrazzamenti sono stati realizzati sui versanti adiacenti al nucleo più antico del paese , a quote variabili tra 450 e 570 metri sul livello del mare.,e sono tra i pochissimi paesaggi terrazzati in Emilia Romagna dove si è ripreso a coltivare dopo decenni di abbandono totale, grazie ad un progetto di recupero illuminato che ha puntato sulla sinergia tra pubblico e privati. I versanti sono oggi nuovamente accessibili grazie al restauro della rete sentieristica e il loro risanamento ambientale ha consentito l’impianto di nuove coltivazioni sperimentali.
Il fiume Enza
Il fiume Enza, che si snoda attraverso la regione Emilia-Romagna del nord Italia, è un corso d'acqua sereno e ricco di storia. Originario dell'Appennino Tosco-Emiliano, scorre con grazia attraverso paesaggi rigogliosi, sostenendo con le sue acque le comunità locali. Riflettendo il mutare delle stagioni, il fiume crea un vivace ecosistema lungo le sue sponde, mettendo in mostra la bellezza della natura. Con una ricca storia segnata da antichi insediamenti e castelli medievali, l'Enza invita all'esplorazione e alla contemplazione. Le sue coste offrono opportunità ricreative, offrendo una fuga tranquilla nello splendore naturale della regione. Il fiume Enza incarna una connessione senza tempo tra passato e presente, simboleggiando la continuità e il cambiamento in questa pittoresca parte d'Italia.
Ecco, queste sono le due bellezze naturalistiche principali del mio piccolo paese, Vetto.
