We are two girls who attend the third year of high school and we would like to tell you how community life works and the various services we offer in our area
My name is Elena and since I was little I have been attending the oratory in my town Castelnuovo nei monti, a mountain village, where I believe there is a great sense of community. We carry out different types of services including collecting various types of clothing for families who have need. We prepare baskets with essential goods such as food and nappies. Dividing ourselves into groups, we go once or twice a week to a charity home where we take care of and spend time together with the elderly people or in any case with those who willingly agree to spend a day with us. We eat together, we wash there, we play games, board games, where you almost always lose because they are very strong.
Another type of service is the green cross or hospital aid carried out by volunteers. I attended the summer camp where I was an entertainer and helped the children make friends and tried to entertain them by preparing fun games and skits.
My name is Letizia,I had a volunteering experience in the charity house in my village, Busana before it was closed. I used to go every Sunday with other kids around dinner time to the charity house, we went there to make ourselves useful, and help elderly people with various things. We brought dinner to the table, and helped the elderly who weren't able to eat, we listened to their requests and often sat down next to them to have a chat during dinner. Once dinner was over we cleared the table, washed the dishes and tidied up the kitchen, all in company, so it was very pleasant. At the end of the dinner we all gathered to say the prayer together with the dons, and this was a very important moment. Some elderly people were then taken to bed, while others remained in the central room to carry out activities: some watched TV, others played cards, and still others played the piano; in all these activities, however, they needed our presence, we talked, chatted, sang and kept all these people company.
From this experience we learned a lot, we learned how little gestures can make a big difference, and how three or four hours of a simple Sunday evening for us can mean enormous joy for someone else and brighten up the whole day. The joy and happiness in the eyes of these people was something priceless and over time it was inevitable for us to become fond of all of them, some in particular.
We suggest to everyone not to refuse an opportunity like this if it ever happens, because with very little, you will be able to help those in need, you will give smiles, and you will make many people feel less alone. For us, volunteering means making ourselves completely available to the people in front of us, and totally opening our hearts to them. These are experiences that I will always remember with great happiness and lightening the monotony they experience every day these people.

Siamo due ragazze che frequentano il terzo anno delle scuole superiori e vorremmo raccontarvi come funziona la vita comunitaria e i vari servizi che offriamo nel nostro territorio
Mi chiamo Elena e fin da piccola frequento l'oratorio del mio paese Castelnovo ne’ monti, un paese di montagna, dove credo ci sia un grande senso di comunità. Effettuiamo diverse tipologie di servizi tra cui il ritiro di vari tipi di indumenti per le famiglie che ne hanno necessità. Prepariamo cestini con beni di prima necessità come cibo e pannolini. Dividendoci in gruppi, una o due volte alla settimana ci rechiamo in una casa di beneficenza dove ci prendiamo cura e trascorriamo del tempo insieme agli anziani o comunque a chi accetta volentieri di trascorrere una giornata con noi. Mangiamo insieme, ci laviamo lì, facciamo giochi, giochi da tavolo, dove quasi sempre perdi perché sono molto forti.
Un altro tipo di servizio è la croce verde o l'aiuto ospedaliero svolto da volontari. Ho frequentato il campo estivo dove facevo l'animatrice e aiutavo i bambini a fare amicizia e cercavo di intrattenerli preparando giochi e scenette divertenti.
Mi chiamo Letizia, ho fatto un'esperienza di volontariato nella casa di beneficenza del mio paese, Busana, prima che chiudesse. Tutte le domeniche andavo con gli altri ragazzi verso l'ora di cena alla casa di beneficenza, andavamo lì per renderci utili, per aiutare gli anziani in varie cose. Portavamo la cena in tavola, aiutavamo gli anziani che non potevano mangiare, ascoltavamo le loro richieste e spesso ci sedevamo accanto a loro per fare due chiacchiere durante la cena. Una volta finita la cena eravamo soliti a sparecchiare, lavare i piatti e riordinare la cucina, tutti in compagnia, era quindi piacevole. Al termine della cena ci riunivamo tutti per recitare la preghiera insieme ai don, e questo è stato un momento molto importante. Alcuni anziani venivano poi portati a letto, mentre altri rimanevano nella stanza centrale per svolgere attività: alcuni guardavano la televisione, altri giocavano a carte, altri ancora suonavano il pianoforte; in tutte queste attività però avevano bisogno della nostra presenza, abbiamo parlato, chiacchierato, cantato e tenuto compagnia a tutte queste persone.
Da questa esperienza abbiamo imparato molto, abbiamo imparato come i piccoli gesti possano fare una grande differenza, e come tre o quattro ore di una semplice domenica sera per noi possano significare un'enorme gioia per qualcun altro e rallegrare l'intera giornata. La gioia e la felicità negli occhi di queste persone era qualcosa di impagabile e col tempo è stato inevitabile che ci affezionassimo a tutti loro, ad alcuni in particolare.
Suggeriamo a tutti di non rifiutare un'opportunità come questa se mai dovesse capitare, perché con poco potrete aiutare chi ha bisogno, regalerete sorrisi e farete sentire meno sole tante persone. Per noi fare volontariato significa metterci completamente a disposizione delle persone che abbiamo di fronte e aprire loro totalmente il nostro cuore. Sono esperienze che ricorderò sempre con grande felicità e alleggerendo la monotonia che vivono ogni giorno queste persone.
